After one year and three months....

we had an almost miracle.

We had a bath that did not involve shrieking, wailing and gnashing of teeth.  Every bath since we have gotten our little guy has taken two of us - one to hold him and one to scrub.  We hope that this progress is permanent and that taking a bath becomes an enjoyable time for all of us!

Glad to hear it!

You can also de-sensitize a child to the bath. It takes a little time, but works. First start with putting them fully clothed in the empty bath with some toys to play. Since you bathe him in a basin, do it in the living room in the beginning. Try a waterproof toy that is exciting that he only gets to play with in that basin. When he will play in the basin happily, begin to move it into the bathroom, and eventually into the tub - still no water.

Then, when he is happy with that, begin taking his clothes off while he plays. If that worries him, leave the diaper on for awhile, but eventually, he will be ok with that, too.

Then, add about one inch of water to the tub first. He may be shocked, but then play with the toy and make little splashes. Gradually over a few days, add in more water, and he should adjust and not be afraid of it.

While you are doing that, it can be better to bathe him in the tub without the basin so he doesn't associate the basin with being washed and fear.

This worked for one of mine who was terrified of baths. But here's hoping he will just be fine from this point out.
