Sure, I can sit!

When we got our little guy last August, he could barely hold his head up, let alone sit unattended.  I didn't know much about Down Syndrome and I thought that the combination of Down Syndrome and being severely malnourished would combine to his development and recovery rather slow.
I couldn't have been more wrong.  This guy wants to sit, crawl and play.  He "talks" up a storm and interacts with us.  He hates his bath and "scolds" us after we give him one.  He kicks, he raises up, he rolls, he lies on his stomach and tries to scoot.  He can sit unattended if we put him in the position.  He is so proud of himself and we are proud of him.

We are thinking a lot these days about what his future will be.  In many ways, it is truly out of our hands.  He is our foster son, not our adopted son.  We want the best for him but have no power to make that happen.  His future may be in his home country, with a loving long term foster family.  It may be with a forever family.  It may be in an institutional setting.  We don't know.  We know what we hope and pray for our little guy.
Sure, he can sit.  That's a major thing.  But he can also love and is easy to love.  That's the most important thing.

Oh what a difference six months of love have done for your little man! Humbling to watch unfold, honestly! And thank you for educating so many of us about raising a child with Down's. It is good information to have under our belts...

He is gorgeous. The Pujols Foundation gives a lot of support for Down's families.

We are lucky to have him for this time of his life! We are humbled at how quickly he has changed.
@Rebecca- we have heard of the Pujols Foundation and they do good work. If he ever ends up in the USA, they might be able to help him!

Thanks for your comment and I'm so happy to come across your blog! Wow, what a truly awesome story you and your family are living. I look forward to following your blog and getting to know more about you. Thank you for sharing your journey with us!

Do you guys work at all with "Love without Boundaries"? I'm just becoming familiar with that ministry and all they do with foster care, orphan care, and medical care, and I've seen the websites of the different New Day foster care homes they have.

Anyhow, thanks for the comment--I'm glad I know about your blog! I'll be following.

Libby.

It sounds like he's just a tad behind our 8 1/2 month old in physical development. She's just starting to sit up a little better but is still tipsy. I have a brother with downs, and those kids all advance at such varying levels that one never knows what to expect. It looks like your little guy is pretty high functioning with it! He's so cute!

I think you are about right, Katie. He can sit if we put him in the sitting position. He can roll and can almost scoot. Bit by bit, he is getting there. We think he is very high functioning-he is so alert and interactive and seems to have a real drive to develop.Plus- he is so sweet!

I have been home three weeks today with my precious little one with designer genes. We could not be more in love with her!!!

It was hard being in China with her as everyone wanted to stare at her two inches from her face. I understood that most had never seen a child with DS, but it was hard for me to watch. I just wanted to protect her.

I pray that your little boy finds a home quickly or we will just have to head back to China sooner than I thought for our 11th child!!

Love your blog!!
